The Addison, Texas-based company said Tuesday that its American Community Newspapers LLC operating subsidiary had fileed for a Chapter 11 reorganizatiojnin U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. The company’s filin was unavailable Tuesday evening. American Community Newspapers (Pink said the filing would not affec tits day-to-operations and that its media holdings would continues to publish. The company said its secured creditors wouldprovide $5 million in new debtor-in-possessioh financing, and that it expected those creditorw to make the first offe r for its assets.

Both Young Brothers and Pasha Hawaik Transport Lines have enlisted the help of powerful statr lawmakers to beef up their respective filingsa with the Public Utilities Commission. At least two of those lawmakers are working both sidexs ofthe issue. House Speaker Calvin Say and Speaked EmeritusJoe Souki, both wrote letters to Pasha in January welcomingf the company’s application to ship cargo interisland. The letters, datex Jan. 28 (Souki) and Jan. 30 (Say), are part of Pasha’a March 13 filing with the PublicUtilitiea Commission, and use very similar language. But something happened after those letterswere sent.
In a letter signed by both men on April 24 to PUC ChairmahCarlito Caliboso, Say and Soukik make no mention of competition or benefits. NYSE is considering relaxing the rule that says shares trading on the NYSE must tradeabovd $1, according to reports. Right now, if shares trade below that threshold for 30 consecutive business days, the company’s shares can be delisted. Duringf a prescribed “cure” period, the company has to submiy a plan showing how it will get the sharess back above the listing amongother requirements.
