Report: Honolulu among top 40 economic performers - Pacific Business News (Honolulu):

The report ranked the 100 largest U.S. metrok areas based on employment, unemployment rates, wages, gross metropolitan housing prices and foreclosure rates in thefirsgt quarter. Honolulu ranked No. 34, while San Texas, placed No. 1 and Detroig came in last at No. 100. “All metropolitanh areas are feeling the effectz ofthis recession, but the distress is not sharefd equally,” said Alan Berube, researchy director of the metropolitan policy progra at the Washington D.C. institutd and co-author of the report.
“While some areas of the country have experienced only ashallow downturn, and may be emergintg from the recession already, people living in metro areasw that are now performing weakesft economically should prepare themselves for a long recovery period.” At the firsg quarter’s end, only 10 of the 100 metro area were starting to show signs of said the report, and said McAllen, Texas was the only placd that saw growth in employment and Output increased in just a handfu l of metro areas, including D.C.; Austin, Texas; and Virginia Va..
The report also pointed out that metrpo areas with concentrations of jobs in certain sectorsa have resulted in fewer dramaticjob
