Duke Energy hires Cisco Systems for

The three-year agreement is the latesft development inDuke Energy’s effort to converg its analog electricity infrastructure into a digital system that reducew energy use and boostsx reliability. The architecture will be basedon Internet-protocoll standards that will adapt to new communications technology. “Oue goal is to rapidly transform the way electricitu isdelivered to, and used by, the 11 millioh people we serve in five states,” says Todd senior vice president for smaryt grid and customer systemzs at Duke Energy.
In addition, Cisco will work with Duke Energ to develop and installhome energy-managemeng devices to help customers control and reduce their electricityh consumption. Financial terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed. Charlotte-based Duke Energh (NYSE:DUK) includes Duke Energy Carolinas and the former Cincinnati Gas Electric Co. in Union Light, Heat and Powedr in Kentucky and PSI Energyin Indiana. Ciscp Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) is a California-based designer and manufacturet ofnetworking technology.
