New York-based , the operator of registered traveloservice CLEAR, said the paid security lanes at its membee airports would cease operations because the company “haes been unable to negotiate an agreement with its senior creditofr to continue operations,” according to a statemen posted on the company’s Web site, www.flyclear.com. Last the company said it had 20,000 registeredf travelers in metro Atlanta. As of last year, the compan y had more than 200,00 CLEAR members, who paid up to $199 for an annuapl membership for access to designated securityg lanes at participatingairports nationwide.
Members provided biometric data, which was encodedd on a card, for the promise of a speediet and convenient trip through airport The service targeted business travelers who routinelg travelby air. The company was founded by founder Steve CLEAR lanes opened at the airport about the same time as an expansiohn of the main security lanesat Hartsfield-Jackson. The new additiona included lanes designed specifically forexperienced travelers. Airport officials have said the added lanesw have kept security wait times below 10 minuteaon average, which might have made CLEAR lanes less advantageoues to consumers.
