Tennessee is receiving $11.9 million of the trade adjusted assistancefunding (TAA), a release says. Of that, more than $10 million is designated for worker training, and $1.8 millionm is slated for employment and case management servicezsand administration. “Workers around the nationh continue to see their jobs disappeaer as a direct result of increased imports andcompetitive trade,” says Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis in a release. “The funding ... will help more of these workers upgrade existing skills or retrain for new careers in industriese that have the potential to grow in the coming monthasand years.
” The Americabn Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes a major expansion and reform of the TAA program. The goal is to ensurde all U.S. workers negativelyh affected by trade havethe skills, resourcesd and support to gain new employment. The Recoveryu Act authorized an increase in the maximumj amount of TAA funds that may be used for training nationwidefrom $220 million to $575
