The 27-megawatt solar project known as Western Ranch is being developefdby Houston-based using the SunCatcher power system manufactured by its sister company, Stirling Energy Systems. This will be the first Texas project forTessera Solar, which currently has 1,5009 megawatts of projects in California situatee in Imperial Valley and the Mojave “This marks our first purchasw of solar-generated energy, and we look for it to be the starrt of a successful solar progran for many years to come,” says CPS Energy CEO Milton B. Lee. “Soladr will complement our diversified approacgh toproducing electricity.
We look forwar to working with Tessera to help satisfy our electric needs in GreaterSan Antonio.” CPS announced last summer its commitment to pursue up to 100 megawattsz of resource capacity from solard energy. The Western Ranch Solar project is expected to break ground in summer 2010 with the firs t units expected to come online by the endof 2010. The projec t will be comprisedof 1,080 SunCatche dishes and will create an estimated 100 construction jobs and up to 20 permanentf jobs. CPS Energy of San Antonio is the nation’s largest municipall owned energy company providing both natural gas andelectricx service.
