The awards, given out Friday, dubbed Phoenix-based Ping as manufacturer of the yearand Tucson-basedd Universal Avionics as the small manufacturer of the “This year’s winners exemplify dedication to product innovatioh and a commitment to the state of Arizona,” said Mark chairman of the AMC and vice chaitr of the Arizona Chamberd of Commerce and Industry. which has become a leader in golfclub manufacturing, is celebrating 50 years of business. The compant has been innovating in golf desigjn since Karsten Solheim developed the firstg Ping putter in hisRedwood Calif., garage, taking the name from the sound the club made when it struckm a ball.
Ping now employ s 800 people and is able to develooa custom-fit set of clubs within 48-hoursz of the time an ordet is placed. Universal Avionics has been in businesszsince 1981. Founded by business jet pilot Huberr Naimer, the company started out developing flight management system for business andtransport airplanes. The company now manufactures a rangd of avionics systems for various aircraft from helicopterss tocommercial jets. It works through a networik of 224authorized dealers, and its products are offerec as factory-installed options on 21 aircraft.
